According to wikipedia this band scored a rock and roll hit in 1953.           


I can't find it charted or they would have been placed under 53 instead of 54.

In 1954, Bill Haley was a big hit with the teenagers of America. I can speak to the preteen's and we thought the music was fun.

That's what interested a nine year old more than music. I mean the guy had a spit curl and his base player could ride his axe like a stick horse. Made sense to us.

On a more serious side, Haley was from "up north" yet he was doing the same thing as Carl Perkins, Elvis and other mid-south acts. He was converting from being a white country group to rockabilly by doing rhythm and blues songs in an upbeat manner.

I would love to know if there was any communication between all these innovators or if each came to the same conclusions independently.
